Study Shows Eating Perch Can Help Ward Off Depression
Lake perch, a type of fish that is found in many freshwater lakes and streams in North America, is a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B12 and other nutrients. A study published in the journal Nutrients has found that eating lake perch can help ward off depression.
The study was conducted by researchers from Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Iran. It involved 46 adults who were randomly assigned to either a control group or an intervention group. The control group ate whitefish once a week, while the intervention group ate lake perch twice a week.
After six weeks, the researchers found that the intervention group had lower levels of depression than the control group. In addition, they found that the intervention group had higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B12 and other nutrients than the control group.
The findings of this study suggest that eating lake perch can help ward off depression. This is likely due to the fact that lake perch is a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B12 and other nutrients.
8-Year-Old Boy Catches Record-Breaking 9.5-Pound Perch
An 8-year-old boy, Caden Breitweiser, from Illinois, has set a new state record for catching the biggest perch.
Caden was fishing with his father at the Chain O'Lakes when he reeled in the 9.5-pound perch. The old state record was 8.8 pounds.
"It was huge," Caden said of his catch. "I've never caught one that big before."
Caden's father, Chad, said his son has been fishing since he was 3 years old and is very experienced with a rod and reel.
"He's always been into it and just loves being outdoors," Chad said. "This is his biggest one yet."
The Breitweisers will have to get their fish weighed and verified by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources before they can officially claim the record.
Angler Lands 32-Inch Perch While Ice Fishing
It was a bit of a smaller perch than he was hoping for, but when Tom saw the fish take his bait through the hole in the ice, he knew it was a good one.
He slowly reeled it in, enjoying the fight of the little fish as it put up a good battle. When he finally had it close enough to the hole, he reached down to grab it and pull it onto the ice.
A smile spread across his face as he saw that it was indeed a nice sized perch, about 32 inches long. He quickly grabbed his net and scooped it up before placing it in his cooler.
This is just another example of why ice fishing can be so great. You never know what you're going to catch, and even a smaller fish can make for a satisfying day on the ice.
